I am a very experienced maths teacher and tutor, looking to help your child achieve the grades they are hoping for. I teach full time at Gresham's Senior School in Holt, and tutor in the evenings and on Sundays. I have enjoyed success in boosting students' results by as much as two grades at GCSE, A Level and IB (in comparison with their expected scores). Of course, the sooner you start, the more chance of success (I teach from Year 8 upwards). I have tutored students from Norwich School, Wisbech Grammar, Town Close, Taverham Hall, Norwich High School for Girls, Beeston Hall and Cromer Academy and have also gained a lot of experience teaching online, through Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and a range of maths-related programmes. If you are worried about the impact of Covid-19 on your child's maths progress, please get in touch. Prices start from £40 per hour, depending on age-group.

Before moving to Norwich, Norfolk, Raymond W., BA Hons/PGSE. (Mr Grade) spent the early part of his life, growing up in the East End of London.
As a mature student, Mr Grade gained his BA Honours Degree in English and Psychology in 2001. He continued his academic career by achieving a Post Graduate Degree in Education for Students at 16 plus, teaching English and Psychology within a College and Sixth Form setting.
Mr Grade found that students who struggled in the college setting had ‘gaps’ missing from their previous education in the lower schools. As a result, Mr Grade felt that he could help students by achieving a Qualified Teaching Status so that he could better prepare students in Secondary Education. Mr Grade is passionate about young people progressing, successfully, to either their academic or work-related careers at college.
Mr Grade has taught in the Primary setting, teaching the English skills that young children need, to enter confidently, into Secondary Education.
Mr Grade believes in ‘giving back to the community’ the chances that education had given him, which spurred him to teach both young people and mature students so they become ‘the very best versions of www.*** ;
In recent years, he has successfully taught English Language and Literature up to GCSE in both Norfolk, Suffolk and Online!

I specialise in getting pupils to understand why Mathematics works the way it does. Not just knowing what to do, but knowing why you do it.
This is critical in the new style of exams, as otherwise it is quite difficult to achieve your targets.
My lessons are usually a discussion between myself and the tutee. Working through higher level problems once the base understanding is concrete.
Pupils are always encouraged to ask questions about Mathematics in general so that their understanding is at the highest possible level.
I started tutoring professionally during the first COVID lockdown in England, since then I have taught groups of 30, but mostly 1-on-1 sessions, ranging from KS2 SATS preparation all the way up to A Level Further Maths with a student aiming to apply to Cambridge Univeristy for Mathematics.
I love seeing that moment of realisation, that Eureka moment, when the topic just clicks for the student. Seeing the progress pupils make during their sessions, as well as over time is just an amazing feeling.
Teaching style depends on the age of the student.
Generally a more relaxed atmosphere, with tutor and tutee as equals.
Working through problems together and setting extra work to complete outside of the session if requested.

I have extensive experience of planning and delivering all lessons for years 3 to 6 including SATs preparation and delivery for my year 6 class. I have also worked closely with my school SRB planning a part time timetable for a student in year 4. I have also completed all assessments for these students. As assistant Senco I've worked closely with students with EHCPs as well as their families and teachers. During 'lock down' I planned and then delivered lessons via 'zoom' so pupils could see us and have a point of contact as well as learning. I think that a practical approach to learning inside and outside the classroom allows students the scope to really involve themselves in the process of becoming confident, caring and thoughtful members of our society. I believe that an excellent, supportive relationship with students establishes a foundation from which they can thrive. I know that if students feel safe, listened to and cared for, they are able to challenge themselves and develop to their potential. I have a proven successful track record of leadership. When I began my role as Head of English, the department was a new one, containing four NQTs. I have built upon the strengths of the department and developed them to become the successful, coherent team they are today. The impact of this is that results have improved from 65% to 79% 4-9 (84% in Literature in 2017). At KS5 our English Literature results are in the top 2% nationally. I am regularly commended on my ability to meet deadlines and see a job through to completion. My team feels valued and appreciates my sense of humour and ability to work under pressure. I believe that one of my strengths is in recognising, steering and developing staff to achieve their potential. This is a necessary skill for inspirational leadership. We are a collaborative and constantly evolving department. We have excellent standard of teaching and learning with seven out of nine lessons graded outstanding or good at departmental review. My role of staff governor has provided me a deep insight into, and appreciation of, the wider workings of the school. In order to be a successful governor it is crucial to maintain integrity, honesty and a real faith in and passion for school improvement. I believe that I manage to communicate effectively my commitment to the right outcomes for all stake holders. It has been hugely enriching for me to be able to separate out professional and personal decisions by understanding the bigger picture and whole school context.
